Before departure: check your main payment method

Choose the payment service you intend to use, then follow its official setup instructions. Work through these checks before you leave.

  • Check whether your card or account is supported, what verification is required and which fees may apply.
  • Sign in and check that you can receive verification messages. Ask your provider about using the service during your trip.
  • Save the provider’s official support channel and instructions somewhere you can find again. Do not put account passwords in your travel notes.

Prepare a usable backup

  • Choose a second way to pay, such as a different card or RMB cash, and confirm with your bank how to access it.
  • Keep your phone charged and make a plan for paying if the phone or main app is unavailable.
  • Ask your accommodation how you can pay before arrival, especially if you expect to check in late.

At the payment counter

  • Confirm the amount, currency and recipient before approving a payment.
  • If a payment fails or its status is unclear, check the transaction record and ask the merchant before trying again.
  • Use your backup if the merchant cannot accept your main method. A successful setup does not guarantee acceptance everywhere.

Keep payment details out of your travel request

ChinaConnect does not need your card numbers, account passwords or payment screenshots to review a travel request. For fees, verification or a disputed transaction, contact the payment provider through its official channel.
